Speculation: Upcoming Halo Game Reportedly Being Built with Unreal Engine 5
Jan-10-2024
Following the 2021 launch of Halo Infinite, 343 Industries appeared to have quickly embarked on the creation of a new installment in the storied franchise. According to Idle Sloth's observations on X, Justin Dinges, the ex-art director at 343 Industries, mentioned in his LinkedIn profile his involvement with "the next unannounced Halo game" from April 2022 to March 2023.
What adds to the intrigue is that Ian Slutz, the senior character systems designer at 343 Industries, also disclosed on his LinkedIn profile that he has been working with Unreal Engine 5 to develop player systems and assets. This suggests a possible shift in 343's approach to adopting the latest iteration of Epic's game engine, at least in some capacity. The connection between these two undertakings remains to be determined. However, it's important to note that Certain Affinity, known for working on a Halo-related project rumored to integrate battle royale elements, is also utilizing Unreal Engine 5.
All these developments could indicate a significant strategic shift for 343 Industries, potentially transitioning from their proprietary Slipspace Engine to the widespread use of Unreal Engine for future adventures featuring Master Chief.
