Unicorn Overlord Crosses 500,000 Copies Sold

Vanillaware's latest creation, Unicorn Overlord, has managed to captivate audiences and secure its place at the top of the sales charts in Japan, despite launching in a month crowded with notable titles like Rise of the Ronin and Dragon’s Dogma 2. The game quickly sold out its physical edition and maintained its position as the leading seller for two consecutive weeks. In a testament to its success, Atlus released a trailer celebrating the sale of over 500,000 units, a significant milestone that marks the game's widespread acclaim.
This trailer, which made its appearance on March 22nd, became accessible to viewers only recently. When comparing Unicorn Overlord's achievements to those of Vanillaware's past major game, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, the difference is notable. 13 Sentinels, which had its debut in Japan in November 2019 and hit international shelves in September 2020, reached the 300,000 sales mark by January 2021. This shows a marked improvement in sales performance for Vanillaware's latest offering.
Several factors contribute to the success of Unicorn Overlord. Unlike its predecessor, it was launched simultaneously worldwide and made available across a wider range of platforms. The game leans towards a tactical strategy role-playing genre, fused with an engaging story and a fascinating cast of characters, which likely broadened its appeal. However, PC gamers eager for a port of the game might have to wait a little longer for any news on that front.
